The Huizhou Commercial Validation programme has reached a new milestone: the AEROGRID® Micro-Wind Solar Hybrid platform now cuts in at a wind speed of 2.4 m/s.
Conventional wind turbines typically need 3–4 m/s before they start producing. By beginning generation at 2.4 m/s, the AEROGRID® oscillating-aerofoil system can produce power in the low, turbulent, ground-level wind conditions found across an estimated 90–95% of the Earth's surface — including the populated, built-up regions where conventional wind has never been viable.
Why cut-in speed matters
- More generating hours — the platform is producing in conditions that leave rotating turbines idle
- More viable sites — low-wind regions, campuses, airports and industrial land become candidates for deployment
- A stronger 24-hour profile — micro-wind fills in around the solar curve, improving bankability without heavy battery storage
