The hybrid figure assumes minimal battery CAPEX. Because the platform generates across a near-continuous 24-hour window, battery capacity required for firm delivery falls by roughly 80% against a solar-PV-only configuration — where storage adds $150–$250/kWh to project cost.
Why the wind resource was previously discounted
Conventional wind assessment relied on MET data averaged over long intervals, typically one hour. That averaging flattens gust energy and produces smooth profiles that look commercially weak. The energy in ground-level turbulent gusts, vortex paths and micro-events does not survive the average.
Gusts of 4 m/s are abundant across approximately 80% of the globe, including populated regions where land is constrained.
